2017 Creative Plans and Stuff

Oh January. You have a way of making everything seem possible. Like, all the things.
There are lots of goals and steps to make all swirling in my creative soul happen. And reality has to play a part.

Some things have to stay and some things have to go. So after thinking and praying and assessing my goals, aspirations and my commitments – here’s what 2017 will look like in the retrohipmama crafty world.

I’ve talked about it all in this video or you can read about it below!

DESIGN TEAMS:
So excited that I’ll be staying with Gossamer Blue for another year! The variety of products and exclusive cards make this team so fun!

I have moved into a different role with Illustrated Faith and am creating more product based promotional videos. I’m loving this challenge and having fun with new ideas and concepts for the quick videos we’ve been putting out.

I’m also adding a new team this year that I’ve been excited about for over a year! Elle’s Studio will be a fun and very natural fit for me as I was already creating with their products and looooving it! I actually contributed to a Sketch class for them and also guest blogged for them in August so that was a blast!

CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS:
I love teaching classes. I love bringing my experience and solutions to others who love to learn and gather. This community is nuts for all the knowledge and I am so inspired by those who want to soak up new skills and apply them to their crafty lives.

Which leads me to my goals for teaching more this year.

First, this month – on January 16th to be exact – my first class goes live at Big Picture Classes and it’s all about Pockets! I’ve been working on the class content for months and seeing the date on the calendar is super cool. So be sure to check it out and sign up!

The next class I’m working on is again, about pockets but I want to bring in a different perspective. I’ll be hosting a class with the fabulous Mrs. Alyssa Duncan called Memory Keeping for New & Experienced Crafters. This will be part of a bigger overall theme called 2 Crafty Babes that I would love to branch out into lots of different crafty things that all involve myself and another crafty babe – see what I did there? Dare I say more classes or possibly a podcast? Lots of ideas here so nothing’s concrete but I’m excited!

This class will be coming out sometime late spring-ish and of course, I’ll bombard you with sneaks and reminders and all the details along the way.

Another class on the horizon for the fall will be embroidery art. You’ve probably seen some of my pieces where I create a design and stitch it out to make art I decorate my home with. Well I want to teach you how to make them too! More details to come on this too!

MEMORY KEEPING:
Oh boy, This is a tough one but it’s an area where I have to make a change. It may be temporary, but for this season of my life, I’m finding that the same ol’ same ol’ just ain’t gonna cut it.

Printing and developing process: I’ll be printing from home exclusively. I’m seriously torn up about it because I’ve developed a great system with printing from a lab. But I’ve realized that A) I over print which is a time waste and money waste. B) The saddest part is coming up. My kids are growing up and I’m not taking as many photos anymore. I’ve probably decreased my actual number of developable photos by 25% in the last several months. Now, many factors could be at play here but I’m leaning toward being more selective about what gets printed and this means less photos and I can print small batches on-demand on my new Pixma printer. I’m gonna have to make that work for now and I’m okay with it! The quality is fairly close to perfect. I have some more testing to do to crisp up the black in my photos but overall it will work.

Personal album: You may have seen some recent posts from me on Instagram using Traveler’s Notebooks.

I am obviously fashionably late the this party but have absolutely fell in love with this format of documenting. So from here on out, my personal album will no longer be in pocket albums as I will exclusively use TN for my personal photos, OLW pages and lists. I’m super pumped! I also saw a fun project on the Felicity Jane blog to make a TN magazine-style file for them and I am soooooo making that!

YOUTUBE:
I love creating videos and content for you here but – as you can imagine – it’s very time consuming. Videos are a lot of work and there are lots of steps involved. So, my channel will remain the home for all videos I create. Someday I would love to have a more regimented schedule with weekly episodes but for now it’s going to remain kinda willy-nilly and sporadic as you’ve come to expect from my random uploads.

INSTAGRAM:
My place. I adore IG and never plan to leave or post less. I adore this community we’ve built there. It’s pretty and people are sweet and generous with their love and support and I have met THE MOST wonderful people there. I will continue to inspire and encourage and be real and awkward and comfortable. Because you’re my people. My Jesus loving, pocket stuffing, food struggling, bible drawing, glitter sweating, messy desk, living with 3-day hair mamas. That’s where I love to share so I’m definitely hanging around.

Well, that’s what’s up.

Talk soon!

illustrated faith // blessings or lessons devotional

blessings or lessons

Many of our milestones could easily be categorized into either a lesson or a blessing. When you really think about the cards that life has dealt you (or the cards you have dealt yourself), how do you play them? Did you learn from it or were you blessed by what you experienced? Did you just brush it off and move on and thank God that he protected you from something else? Or worse, are you still hanging on to it while it sits unresolved in your heart?

I have definitely experienced all of the above. Even before this devotional – I have wondered why this or that happened and asked God to show me if this was a blessing or if he was trying to teach me something. Most of the time he was trying to teach me, because clearly I needed it! But other times, even losses, were blessings. Sometimes when you’re in the thick of it it’s hard to see – but with some time things usually becomes clear.

So having this topic in a beautifully written devotional by the gorgeous Stephanie Smokovich (owner of Bella Blvd) means that I get to really dig in and take a look at each of those stages or events and see where they fall. Or maybe I will even find some milestones that I hadn’t seen this way before. Maybe God will reveal something that’s still unresolved and help me resolve it. Maybe He will let me enjoy the new friendships I have made through getting out of my comfort zone. Maybe He will do the same for you through this devotional!

2015 pocket pages // weeks 10 – 14

hey scrappy friends!

our weekends lately have been open and free for me to get my scrap on! it’s been a blessing because it’s what i am really craving these days. i’m not sure i’ve been this current in a long while, either. i don’t feel particularly comfortable being this caught up because i am afraid that i’ll eventually run out of stuff to scrap.

thankfully i always have my personal album to fall back on when the family album isn’t inspiring me or i don’t have all the photos i need. and oh, i have done some updating in that album and will post a video flip thru soon!

but back to weeks 10-14 – i have so much to share!
new techniques. lots of full page layouts. super colorful pages.

AND – A NEW FLIP-THRU VIDEO!
take a gander at that if you like and then scroll for detailed pics of each layout.

december daily // c+d+e

the best part about doing my december daily in alpha order is that i can photograph things with intention. and i feel like i can breathe knowing i don’t have to have something planned each day just to grab a photo.

and now that my evenings aren’t spent in a post-work zombie-like state, i have been able to creep over to my desk and work on little bits and pieces each night.

which leads to semi-completed and photo ready pages!

here is C (left side) for cold, cheers, cookies, candy canes and christmas lists.

IMG_3383.JPG

and the right side. loved the little mice with their cookies and candy canes. i honestly didn’t know if i’d ever use this paper, but when i started looking through my kit and searching for items with the letter c, it just jumped out at me. and aren’t they just adorable? anyhoo, i found these perfect 3×3 pocket pages from october afternoon and have plenty of room for a bunch of photos!

IMG_3382.JPG

next up is D for decorating and deck the halls. it’s the back side of C so i get to use smaller photos again, which means lots of room! if it works out, i’d love to do a 6×6 of a really good photo and split it up to it fit in 4 pockets! crossing fingers!

IMG_3380.JPG

here is a closeup of the title insert. i used my silhouette to cut the entire alphabet in white and it’s the capital letter here. i really like the flexibility of using it or not and had fun adding the different lowercase letter for some dimension.

IMG_3381.JPG

E has been my favorite so far. i was really in a groove when i was working on all of these inserts.

IMG_3372.JPG

Es are extremely sacred but i made a sacrifice to use what i had left because when you have a vision you just go with it! and it complete paid off!

IMG_3373.JPG

one word for E is enjoy. and although when i began working on this spread, i didn’t have a specific photo in mind, i knew i wanted the word (which is a former one little word of mine) to stand out.

IMG_3374.JPG

IMG_3377.JPG

once i began to think of what kind of photo i would want here, it dawned on me that i had taken a pretty enjoyable photo a few nights prior. so i printed it and made this layout around it. i found an inspiring layout on instagram by paddymack7777 and scraplifted some elements from her design, like the stripes at the bottom and using a paper lunch bag.

IMG_3375.JPG

IMG_3378.JPG

and one of my favorite inserts ever, is this one to commemorate our love for the movie elf. it was hard to pick just one quote from the movie but with this one i knew i could go nuts with the alphas so I went for it! i found a clean image online and printed it on photo paper then trimmed it out and glued it to the white background i wanted. then just added words and prayed i’d have enough room at the end. 🙂

IMG_3376.JPG

IMG_3379.JPG

and there is C, D and E!

this weekend i got through F and G but then got a little burnt out so i cleaned up and finished a spread from week 41 using a ton of new scraptastic club goodies i bought on black friday! which made me cancel my studio calico sub within minutes of opening the life noted kit! for reals!

anyhoo, that’s a whole other topic.

for now, enjoy your monday and your week and may your days be merry and bright. see you next week with some more letter layouts!
